Welcome to v8.5 of the Wall Street Journal app. We've listened to your feedback and have added the ability to print articles from your device. We hope you enjoy. In addition, you'll find enhanced fonts and color treatments. Finally, we've taken care of various bugs to ensure a quality experience.
Version 8.4 released on May 11, 2017
Thank you for upgrading your WSJ app! In this version, we have introduced a brand-new "follow author" feature designed to get you closer to The Journal's top-class reporters. Simply tap the icon next to an author's byline in the app and you will be signed up to receive a push notification any time that author publishes a new story. You can see all of your followed authors and update your preferences at any time in the app's notification settings page. We have also upgraded the app to support rich push notifications, allowing for an expanded view of a notification that shows the image or video associated with a story, and allows you to watch a video in the notification itself when one is attached. The other big news in version 8.4 is that we have restored the ability to select a paragraph of text in WSJ articles, and to copy or share it using your preferred social and messaging apps. This update also includes a number of bug fixes for iPhone and iPad, addressing crashes that some readers have experienced when tapping articles in our Today screen widget or when opening stories from push notifications, and by improving performance on older devices. As always, thank you for your feedback, and know that more improvements are on the way.
Version 8.3 released on December 15, 2016
Thank you for upgrading to the latest version of the WSJ app. In our 8.3 release, we have restored the ability to look up the definition of any word in WSJ articles (make sure your device has a dictionary installed via the iOS settings app), made updates to our push notification categories, and included a "skip ad" button on our video player to more quickly access our video content. We have also introduced our daily WSJ news quiz, available every weekday morning in our Top Stories section. You can submit your score every day to the Game Center leaderboard to compare your performance with other quiz-takers! Finally, we improved the performance of our saved articles section and fixed a few bugs that were causing the app to crash for certain readers trying to share WSJ articles. This version builds on our 8.0 release, which included major improvements to how the app brings you the latest news. On iPhone and in the iPad Latest News section, the app will automatically update with new stories without you having to tap for them. Be sure to have background updating turned on in your iOS settings to help ensure the latest news is ready for you when you open the app. On iPad, more Latest News sections are now available both in the page-top navigation and by swiping to the right. Thank you for your continued feedback. More improvements are on the way, and please use the "Email customer support" link on our settings screen to let us know of any questions or problems you encounter.
Version 8.3.1 released on February 23, 2017
In this version of the WSJ app we have updated the Latest News widget on the Today screen so that it shows larger images and displays in either an expanded or collapsed view, and we have improved its performance. Add it to your Today screen by swiping right from the home screen, scrolling to the bottom and choosing “Edit”. We have also made the app launch more quickly from background, restoring your last state immediately when returning to the app after 30 minutes or more. This version also improves performance by addressing crashes some people experienced when opening push notifications, improving the reliability of background content refreshing and reducing memory consumption so that the app runs more smoothly on older devices. Note that this version builds on our 8.0 release, which included major improvements to how the app brings you the latest news. On iPhone and in the iPad Latest News section, the app will automatically update with new stories without you having to tap for those updates. Be sure to have background updating turned on in your iOS settings to help ensure the latest news is ready for you when you open the app. On iPad, more Latest News sections are now available both in the navigation at the top of section fronts and by swiping to the right. As usual, thank you for your feedback. We hear it and more improvements are on the way.
