What is your experience in ASO and what led you to pursue ASO as a profession?

I’ve been doing ASO since 2012. I got into it while working with a IoT startup that needed to find cheap growth. Ended up ranking higher than “Find my iPhone” in the UK.

What need or problem motivated you to search for a solution like AppTweak and how does our tool answer to it?

I needed reliable keyword tracking in multiple languages. AppTweak seemed the most transparent, reliable and was affordable.

What advice would you give to someone just starting with ASO? What should they keep in mind? Where should they start?

I’d suggest getting your hands dirty fast, ask someone if you can work on their ASO. Startup’s are usually game for this. Practice makes perfect. Also don’t follow the trends, stick to basics and do them well. …oh and check out my YouTube videos :D

Can you give us an example of a major ASO decision you made and how it impacted your business?

I once missed timed keyword focus. That is, I pushed a set of keywords that were just moving out of season and the traffic collapsed. I was in a rush to release and skipped checking google trends for seasonality of a topic. Traffic/installs dipped and I had to do another release. Ended up costing me more time in the long run.

What is the biggest ASO challenge you’d like to overcome in coming months? How are you going to attack it?

I think, and this is in most marketing verticals, getting user participation is difficult to obtain. Getting genuine positive reviews, for example, can be tricky if you’re not an established brand, this is the same for retention.

We need pay more attention to psychological principles to develop hooks and triggers for coercing users to make an action you desire. Use data to isolate behaviours and build strategies to try change those behaviours…of course you need good data to begin this process, so getting your data inline is a good first step to attacking issues in ASO
