ASO Client Testimonial: Agata from Babbel

What is your experience in ASO and what led you to pursue ASO as a profession?

I started working in ASO 3.5 years ago, when it was starting to be a hot topic. It was somewhat of a deep-dive - I had to learn everything from scratch and the techniques and tools still weren’t that developed then. I appreciated the fact that I could use my analytical skills and that there was so much to learn literally every day. I’m now using the knowledge I gained during all this time at Babbel, a language learning app company based in Berlin which I joined a month ago. I feel there is still a lot I can learn, which keeps me motivated to continue working in this profession.

What need or problem motivated you to search for a solution like AppTweak and how does our tool answer to it?

Because the agency I previously worked in was focused on multi-lingual ASO, we were looking for a tool primarily for keyword research which would relatively quickly give us keyword data in many localisations and markets. In the end we shifted almost completely to AppTweak when new features were added to the tool, especially the Search Ads volume integration.

What advice would you give to someone just starting with ASO? What should they keep in mind? Where should they start?

It’s good to start with reading a lot about the topic, finding out who the best specialists are, following their blogs and joining ASO communities, such as the ASO Stack group on Slack. Remember that not all articles and blogs about ASO are top-quality – make sure you do your research and compare a lot of sources before taking it in. After you’ve mastered the basics, try to apply a test-and-learn approach and be critical about the data you are analysing. Don’t make assumptions on single pieces of data – make sure to double-check if something really works before you apply it. Finally, compare data from different tools and try to use the widest possible range of functionalities they offer.

Can you give us an example of a major ASO decision you made and how it impacted your business?

I would say one of the biggest steps for me was related to refining the keyword research process and creating my own scoring technique for keyword validation. If I compare how I did ASO 3 years ago to my current process, I’m really not that amazed that I’m actually getting better results than before… 😉

What is the biggest ASO challenge you’d like to overcome in coming months? How are you going to attack it?

At Babbel, I’m responsible for creating a long-term ASO strategy. I will be focusing on the possible quick wins and techniques that can bring the biggest business value to the company.
